Theaters
The Benjamin and Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center represents
yet another jewel in the crown of our nation's Performing Arts Centers.
The Schuster Center educates and enriches lives by providing a
world-class facility for the best in local, national and international
performing artists. Dayton Opera and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra
call the Schuster Center home, and it also showcases the latest Broadway
blockbusters. Additionally, a variety of local performing arts
treasures, such as the Dayton Ballet, will also make use of the
facilities. The 2300-seat Mead Theatre serves as the focal point of this
marvelous structure. Outstanding acoustics, coupled with technical
capabilities designed to meet the most demanding touring attractions,
highlight the auditorium's construction. Other features include balcony
seating above the orchestra seats, and easy accessibility. In addition,
the 150-seat Mathile Black Box Theatre will accommodate rehearsals,
special programs and smaller-scale performances. It utilizes a separate
entrance and can be used concurrently with Mead Theatre. A condominium
and office tower adjoins the theatres, and it includes a marvelous
restaurant.
Since 1866, the "Magnificent Edifice" at First and Main Streets has
held many names and forms, but one thing has remained constant - a
tradition of celebrating and enriching life through the performing arts.
Home of America's most prestigious stars, including Edwin Forrest, Lillie
Langtry, Harry Houdini, Sarah Bernhardt and Mark Twain, were featured in
productions during this period. Today, the Victoria Theatre is home to
performances by many of Dayton's arts organizations, including Dayton
Ballet, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC), The Muse Machine and
CityFolk. In addition, Victoria Theatre Association presents the Chase
Broadway Series, Star Attractions, the Young at Heart Family Series, the
Michelob Ultra Cool Films series, the Physicians for Kids Education
Series and the Universal 1 Variety Series at the Victoria Theatre.
The Greene features 14 state-of-the-art auditoriums, all stadium style with Dolby® Digital Surround EX sound. Two of these auditoriums, "Director's Halls", offer Ultra Leather rocking recliners, reserved seating for all performances, live pre-show intros, a themed mural of Brandywine Falls in Ohio, escorted seating service and order-at-your-seat concessions.
Since we first opened our doors in 1960, Playhouse South has been known by many names, and have produced our highly acclaimed productions in a variety of locations.
Showcase Cinemas South Dayton Mall
Town Hall Theatre occupies the historic Washington Township Hall, located at 27 North Main Street in downtown Centerville. The hall was built in 1908 for the purpose of holding town meetings, graduations, and Grange activities.
Venues:
One of the most prolific venues in NCAA history, UD Arena is home to the
University of Dayton Flyers. Catch the NCAA men's basketball tournament in an
NBA-caliber facility. The Arena has been hailed by sportscasters and opponent
coaches alike as one of the greatest venues in college basketball. In 2002, the
Arena was the site of the first ever high definition television broadcast for
ESPN. The Arena is scheduled to host the Opening Round game through 2010, and
will be a regional venue for the women's tournament in 2010.
Fraze Pavilion is southwestern Ohio's premiere outdoor entertainment
venue, celebrating its 18th season since Marvin Hamlisch christened the
4300-seat amphitheater in 1991.
Each summer several artists make their Fraze debut and 2008 was no
exception. We welcomed a Beatle, Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, the
Backstreet Boys and Boston - all who sold out! Willie Nelson and Crosby,
Stills & Nash returned in 2008 and sold out as well. Near sell outs in
2008 included shows by first time artists Gary Allan and The Guess Who.
There is something happening year round at RiverScape MetroPark
located in downtown Dayton. Amid the beautiful landscape gardens,
flowering pots, hanging baskets and reflecting pools, the park hosts a
full range of activities including free summer weekend concerts, parent
and preschooler programs, major community festivals including the Dayton
Celtic Festival, the CITYFOLK Festival, Taste of Miami Valley!, the
Lebanese and Hispanic Festivals and more.
Home of the Dayton Dragons, Fifth Third Field offers a fun family
venue for all to enjoy. Voted as one of the top ten hottest tickets to
get in all of professional sports by Sports Illustrated.
Awe-inspiring aircraft. Visually striking exhibits. Dynamic major events. It’s all part of the visitor experience at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, the world’s largest and oldest military aviation museum and the official museum of the U.S. Air Force. Located near Dayton, Ohio, the museum welcomes more than 1 million visitors each year. The museum’s galleries present military aviation history, boasting more than 400 aerospace vehicles – many rare and one-of-a-kind, thousands of historical items, and powerful sensory exhibits that bring history to life and connect the Wright brothers’ legacy with today’s stealth and precision technology.
Lincoln Park
Lincoln Park Civic Commons, Kettering's newest park, is a
magnificent, award-winning park featuring reflecting pools, fountains,
patios, flowers, walking paths and a 2-acre pond. Completed in 1988,
Civic Commons has become the center for community wide events such as
the Mayor's Annual Holiday Tree Lighting and Art on the Commons, as well
as a favorite destination for those who just want a breath of fresh air.
It's also home to the Fraze Pavilion for the Performing Arts, which
offers a variety of performances and festivals from May through
September.
